چکیده

The first step in quantum information theory is the identification of entanglement as a valuable resource. The next step is learning how to exploit this resource efficiently. We learn how to exploit entanglement efficiently by applying analogues of thermodynamical concepts. These concepts include reversibility, entropy, and the distinction between intensive and extensive quantities. We discuss some of these analogues and show how they lead to a measure of entanglement for pure states. We also ask whether these analogues are more than analogues, and note that, locally, entropy of entanglement is thermody-

We calculate the free energy, energy and entropy in the matrix quantum mechanical formulation of 2D string theory in a background strongly perturbed by tachyons with the imaginary Minkowskian momentum ±i/R (“Sine-Liouville” theory). The system shows a thermodynamical behaviour corresponding to the temperature T = 1/(2πR). We show that the microscopically calculated energy of the system satisfie...

Erice Lectures on Black Holes and Attractors

These lectures give an elementary introduction to the subject of four dimensional black holes (BHs) in supergravity and the Attractor Mechanism in the extremal case. Some thermodynamical properties are discussed and some relevant formulæ for the critical points of the BH effective potential are given. The case of MaxwellEinstein-axion-dilaton (super)gravity is discussed in detail. Analogies amo...

Thermodynamical properties of QED in 1+1 dimensions within light front dynamics

We investigate thermodynamical properties of quantum electrodynamics in 1 + 1 dimensions (QED1+1). Discrete light cone quantization is used to compute the partition function of the canonical ensemble and the thermodynamical potential. The potential is evaluated for different system sizes and coupling strengths. We perform the continuum limit and the thermodynamical limit and present basic therm...

Quantum mechanics investigation of acid dissociation constant of carboxylic acids in aqueous solution

According to the Bronsted definition, any compound which has a hydrogen atom is an acid, since itmay be lost as a proton. A thermodynamical cycle is proposed to calculate absolute pKa values forBronsted acids in aqueous solution. The equilibrium of dissociation of a Bronsted acid depends onthe interaction of the acid and its conjugate base with solvent molecules. There fore the pKa valuedepends...
